Huntsman presents a complete range of automotive solutions at JEC World 2022

March 30, 2022 - 10:44 am CEST

JEC World is the largest trade event in the composites field, and this May it will be held in person for the first time since 2019. There will be some 1,350 exhibitors, and more than 600 new products are expected to be announced during the three-day event. The show will also be accessible on the internet via the JEC World Connect platform. Event organizers expect over 40,000 attendees (on site and online) from 112 countries.

JEC World 2022 will take place May 3-5 at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre in Paris, France. Huntsman will be presenting its products and services at Booth M 31, Hall 6.

Composites for a Sustainable World

This year’s theme is Composites for a Sustainable World—a perfect fit for Huntsman Advanced Materials, which offers a wide range of products for electrified vehicle and renewable energy applications. The conference will feature many informative presentations focused on sustainability topics, including sustainability of raw materials for composites, sustainable manufacturing of composites, and designing a circular supply chain for composite products.

At the show, Huntsman will present its complete portfolio of composites, adhesives and encapsulants for the automotive industry. Huntsman has more than 70 years of experience developing composite resin technologies, and the company’s scientists collaborate with automotive OEMs, tier manufacturers and industry experts to help them achieve increased performance and faster time to market.

New automotive solutions

Demand for lighter and safer battery housings for electric vehicles is soaring, and composites can be the material of choice for this application. At the event, Huntsman will demonstrate qualified fire-retardant mass-production systems that meet the highest safety standards for EV battery housings.

Composite pressure vessels for hydrogen storage represent another growth area, and Huntsman will be displaying innovative composite solutions for pressure vessels, as well as the latest developments in high-performance resin systems for wet filament winding, RTM and towpreg winding processes.

Weight is a critical parameter for all components of electrified vehicles, and automakers and suppliers are increasingly turning to composites for applications such as leaf springs, wheels, chassis, body-in-white parts and underfloor panels.

At JEC World, Huntsman will showcase solutions specifically developed to answer the growing need for both high-performance and mass production cycle times, that can deliver dramatic reductions in weight while increasing performance versus conventional solutions.

Also on display at the show will be several applications of ARALDITE® epoxy resins designed to improve the performance of electric motors. Huntsman’s thermal management and electrical insulation solutions provide higher performance, increased reliability and longer lifetimes for electric motors. At the Huntsman booth, you’ll see examples of rotors and stators using ARALDITE® encapsulants and impregnation resins. All of these products meet the highest temperature endurance requirements of car manufacturers, and are also designed to enable fast production with consistent part quality.

“Our portfolio of tailored thermal management and electrical insulation solutions meets the challenging requirements of automotive e-motor mass production,” says Florian Gnaedinger, Sales Manager E-mobility.

“For example, our latest ARALDITE® stator encapsulants reduce mold occupation times by up to 50% versus standard encapsulants.”

Visitors to the Huntsman booth will also learn about the company’s simulation, lab testing and processing services, which help customers to greatly reduce the time and costs involved in developing new products and bringing them to market.

Huntsman’s cure and flow simulation services can halve the number of real-world trials needed during development or scale-up phases.

“Our simulation services improve manufacturing performance for a variety of composite parts and processes,” says Simon Burkel, Strategic Marketing Manager Automotive & Composites.
